One On One w/ Doug feat. Michael Collins '25!

D: You’re known as one of the fiercest defenders in the state, where did that tenacity come from?

M: When I was little, I used to try to play at the park with my big brother and cousins and they used to tell me I was too little, and I couldn’t guard anybody. So, I worked on that since I was young.

D: People were questioning your shooting from the perimeter. Last season you took that aspect of your game to another level. How much work did you put into expanding that part of your game?

M: What new people that wasn’t familiar with my game when I was young, shooting the 3 was my best attribute as a younger player. I got away from it because I had to become a point guard and worked on it less, but I got back to it and it took a tremendous jump.

D: You and your sister are two of the best athletes in the area? How competitive are you two?

M: I think that’s somewhat of a reason we are who we are because compete from within and I feel like that’s more pressure than competing with others outside of the house. So, when we do compete outside of the house, it’s easier.

D: Your mom is at every game. She is also at all your sister’s games and track meets. What does her support mean to you?

M: It’s a blessing because you always need support, and she was never a parent to complain at coaches. She always told me to fix it myself and work on my game so that I can get more opportunities.

D: What are some things you feel you can work on to take your game to another level?

M: Some things I can work on and I’m currently working on is controlling the whole floor. Playing chess with others on the court and being the smartest player out there.

D: When Mike Collins goes work out, what does that workout consist of?

M: The workout consists of what my role is on the team right now. It’s working on handles and reading the defense. Also knocking down shots under pressure.

D: A lot of people look at you and say “Man, I bet he would be a monster on the football field!” What position would you play if you played football?

M: I played wide receiver and a lot of people around me would say I’m better at football than basketball because of what I would do on the field.

D: What are your goals for the summer?

M: My goals this summer is to win Peach Jam, be able to choose whatever school I want to go to and becoming the top point guard and player in the nation.

D: You guys are going to be one of the favorites in the city next year, what are your expectations for your senior year?

M: A lot of people would say “Try noy to lose a game next year” But I like to dig deep and try not to lose a half next year because if a team can’t outscore you in either half, they will not win the game.

D: What do you do to get you ready for a game.

M: I think of my cousin Sherron Collins, who was a McDonald’s All American. I think of what he would do in this game and how he would dominate.

D: What is your favorite social media app?

M: I’m not big on social media at all, but I will say X/Twitter because it can be funny at time.

D: What is something you want to tell your supporters as well as your haters?

M: For my supporters, I want to say thank you because they are why I go hard every day. For my haters, I would say keep hating because I love it and I’ll never show them I’m weak.
