The SOUTHWEST EXPOSURE CAMP was held July 13-14, 2021 @ Jack Yates HS.  Approximately 60 campers were in attendance and sorted into 6 different team groups – all counseled by head high school coaches.  In effort to hinder idle time, during the game sessions, the SWEC provided workshops for those teams who were not playing.  Speakers included; a pair of Houston Police officers, Jawaan McClellan (former McDonald’s All American),  Joseph Young (former NBA and current All Star in China), CJ Washington (current NBA referee).

At the conclusion of the SWEC, the counselors provided detailed evaluations of every player who was present on both days.  These evaluations have been emailed to over 200 college coaches nationwide.  Additionally, Rcs Sports was in the building from beginning to end and got a chance to witness several players increase their stock a great deal.  Among those were rising senior guards, Angel Johnson and Kanye Ortiz.

Note:  The games were taped by Forever Young Films @4YFilms which provides the opportunity for parents to obtain footage.

TABC Showcase notebook from Day 1 in Duncanville, Texas. It was a great atmosphere filled with Collegiate Coaches from all levels in the building. For example, I actually counted the college coaches who were watching court 1 during the second game of the day, and there were 145 coaches in the stands. One of my associates was at Duncanville Fieldhouse at the exact same time and he confirmed there were a few coaches over there as well. Let’s get to my NOTEBOOK.

I want to start by noting 2023 stars, Tyler Smith and Wesley Yates III played phenomenal on Day 1. They had all the evaluators saying these guys are 1 & 2 in the State for their class. Tyler Smith 6’10” Small Forward of Fort Bend Bush High School was running with iSchool Lewisville for the event and was on the court with two nationally ranked 2022 prospects and his foes had a pair of peers in his same class of 2023 who are also nationally ranked and one is ranked ahead of him. Tyler was the best player on the entire floor. He played with aggression, was active on the glass, ran the lanes, dunked everything around the rim, and knocked down shots from the perimeter. Wesley Yates III 6’4” Combo had one of the hottest prospects that is trending upward in the country checking him last night and he was giving him fits on the court draining side step treys, step back treys, and hit him with a nasty tween-tween cross almost like the UTEP 2-Step of Tim Hardaway. He also locked in defensively and had blocked a dunk attempt. As he went on to finish the game with 26 points.

Trey Miller 6’1” Point looked really well as he played more off the ball on Day 1 and was a menace defensively as he had 6 steals in the game. A couple of coaches spoke to me about him and his game. He led Concordia Lutheran in scoring, but it was the big time clutch trey ball by new transfer Jacob Hudson, a 6’2” PG who played solid and is learning the system and expectations from his new coach.

The Woodlands Christian played really well as Zion Pipkin got off to a hot start draining three straight trey balls. Austin Benigni is playing more of a facilitator role getting everyone involved in the game. Chanse Perkins 6’5” Small Forward was huge for them, he is like a Swiss Army Knife as he does a bit of everything and is a big-time hustle guy with a good motor.

Beaumont United is still with their winning ways as they defeated Coppell High School who features two Nationally touted prospects. The tough defense and familiarity with each other is huge and is what will keep them rolling. Terrance Arceneaux 6’6” 2022 played solid, and as the senior leader he was very vocal more so than ever before in the court. The toughness of Trealyn Porchia 6’5” 2023 and the shooting of Kayde Dotson 6’2” 2024 also played a big role as well as Wesley Yates III who was mentioned above.

Legacy School of Sports Science has a pair of new faces. Fred Payne a 6’3” Combo Guard 2023 from Louisiana by way of Sunrise Christian  has a good handle on the rock and has a quick pull-up off the dribble game. He also brings toughness on the defensive side of the ball. Jevon Hill 6’9” Forward 2022 from Wichita, KS is long and has some athleticism to him. Jaret Valencia 6’8” Power Forward played really well and cleaned house on the glass and swatted away 6 shots.

Baytown Goose Creek Memorial big time prospect 6’6” W Sam Bradford played well for his team but it was the dynamic play of 6’7” SF Dariyus Woodson that led them to the W as he finished with 30 points. He made the most of coaches watching his game that some said they would be back to watch again on Day2.

Just a few of my Notes for Day 1. You can also view my game recap of Beaumont United vs Coppell by clicking the link. https://youtu.be/X2AQD10Xd4s

Day 2 at TABC Showcase notebook.

Beaumont United had two games on today the first game being a big time matchup of the two state champs UIL 6A Duncanville were their first game and they came away as victors with solid play from Terrance Arceneaux, Wesley Yates, Clarence Payia, and Kayde Dotson who were big down the stretch on a come from behind victory. In their second matchup they faced McKinney High School that featured talented rising junior Jakobe Walters.

It was pretty evident Walters had it on his mind - that he had to prove that he belongs in the conversation as (not just) one of the Top prospects in the 2023 class in the state of Texas, but nationally as well. He was accompanied by
Alex Anamekwe who loves to play above the rim and can shoot it as well. Despite being exhausted Wesley Yates III poured out his all in the first half of the final game and capped off his weekend with a Committable Offer from the University of Texas.

Jesaiah McWright 6’3” SG 2022 who recently surged into Rcs Sports Top 10 for the 2022 Class, displayed his athleticism and had the gym rocking as a result of how hard he was throwing down dunks.

Bryce Smith 5’11” Point Guard 2023 is a tough competitor for the Eagles. On Saturday, he was a big time leader for his team. He played solid defense and was active all over the floor.

Clear Brook will be a tough team once again this upcoming season as they are led by siblings, Kemauri “Kemo” Millender 6’1” Point Guard 2022 and Marcus “Smurf” Millender 5’11” Point Guard 2023. Kemo is a tough scoring lead guard that is a super tough on-ball defender. His outside shooting ability has greatly improved and he isn’t shooting it from the perimeter line he's shooting (and hitting) it from deep. Kemo has a nice combo dribble set up move and can get by his opponent with ease with his elite quick first-step, finishing with 28 points (7/9 treys) and 6 assists. His younger brother Smurf is one of the best 2023 facilitators in the state of Texas. He put on a performance in front of the coaches by dishing out tough assists that he made look easy as he finished with 17 points and 12 assists.

Cypress Ranch will be another team that is tough to beat this season. With Mason Docks 6’0” Point Guard 2022 at the helm he had the ball on a string and ran the offense with precision. Docks can stop on a dime, hit tough jumpers, his ability to break down a defense and facilitate out of the pick-n-roll sets. He finished with 19 points and 5 assists in the win over Dallas based TACA, the state's best homeschooled squad. Dubem Muoneke 6’3” Forward that has crazy bounce and good strength. He can knock down the open trey ball and will flush it on you if you give him the lane. Considering his size, Muoneke is a great shot blocker as well. He finished with 18 points against TACA.

These two 2025 prospects for Mayde Creek High School came to play today. These incoming freshmen had precious moments as young prospects. Jamal Chretien and Christian Jones are a 1,2 punch that will make an immediate impact for the Rams. Both can hit the long ball as they both hit multiple shots from college range. The tough lead guard play of Christian Jones was huge for the Rams as he finished with 26 points and 7 assists and had the winning assist at the buzzer to give his team the victory.

Corey Hadnott 6’2” Point Guard 2023 for Cypress Creek High School had himself a great game at the right time - in a gym with a baseline full of coaches. His quick first step and gets downhill in a hurry and finishes at a high rate around the rim.

Kaleb Pouncy 6’6” SF 2022 for Atascocita caught a nasty body in their 3rd game of the day, and it was an and+1 finish at that. Connor Miller 6’4” SG 2022 had himself a fantastic day at the office while knocking down tough contested trey balls and showed his mid-range game as well.

This Saturday (October 7th), Thurgood Marshall HS hosted a Fall Shoot-Out for varsity teams.  Meanwhile, at the same location the annual JV Fall Championships powered by Rcs Sports took place..  Congrats to Cinco Ranch JV Team, champions of the 2017 JV Fall Championship!

The game was held Saturday, Sept. 9th @ University of St Thomas (Jerabek Center). Here are the RESULTS from Saturday's SHOWDOWN featuring some of the very top high school talent representing Greater Houston and the Dallas / Fort Worth area.  These two cities have long rivaled each other, but have not played in such fashion since 1999 - nearly 20 years ago.  Bragging rights were definitely at stake.  However, the greater goodwill surrounding this game is the fact that these young men stepped up, donated their time to help raise funds for families who suffered residential damage during Hurricane / Tropical Storm Harvey.

Team DFW was coached by Glenn Smith (MetroPlexHoops.com), Darius Coleman and Nicole Player (mother of heralded Kansas freshmen, Billy Preston).  Team Houston was coached by Robert Hatter (The Chop Shop 102.5FM), Moochie Norris and Monja Willis (the mother of Houston Rockets star, James Harden).

WE GAVE AWAY CASH ON THE SPOT!
There were 5 families who walked away with a combined 100% of the entire $5,000 purse collected before and during this event.  This ensured absolutely no doubt about the direction or recipient of everyone's donations.  Plus, every single spectator had access to receive a pair of sneakers or a new clothing item.  At the end of the 3rd period, there were 5 separate drawings at random.  At least 1 family member OR the person who initially nominated the family via email MUST HAVE BEEN PRESENT to claim the winnings.  Otherwise, we repeated the process of drawing another family.  This indeed was a wonderful day for many families.

The notable donors included:  Eco-Staff ($1500),  A Better Bail Bone ($600),  John Lucas Enterprises ($500),  Hardwood Foundation ($500).  Each had a representive present to actual pull the name of the fortunate families.  The head coaches, Smith and Hatter collectively drew the final winning name.  There wasn't a dry eye in the building during this process.

HOW DID WE KNOW WHICH FAMILIES TO PICK FROM?
Anyone could have sent an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (with a brief note about the family, along with a contact number).  We called and verified every family which was nominated.  Those with at least 3 members in the household, including 1 current student (K-12th grade) was eligible, and placed in the drawing box.

Special Thanks to the University of St Thomas for opening their doors to host this event.  Enterprise Car Rental provided the van in Dallas.  Witherspoon Law Group provided Glen Smith who drove the van.  LemonTree Foundation (David Dennis) in conjunction with Babins Cajun Restaurant supplied the post game meal for both teams.
The referees donated their time to officiate at no cost.  Rick Godfrey, the PA Announcer charged no fee for his services.  Over a dozen volunteers helped sort and distrubute clothing, kept scoreclocks, and scorebook in order.

The Class of 2018 and 2019 sessions of Rucker On Wood, open gym series will take place Sunday (September 3rd) @ The GYM (2325 Atascocita Rd).  Due to massive flash floods, the streets of Houston are unsafe for anyone to travel.

The Back 2 School Battle annually serves as a fundraiser for the Yates Basketball program.  On Sunday August 13, 2017, Boost Mobile was on site with some giveaways.  Celebrity DJs (Mr. Rogers - 93.7 The Beat vs Kiotti - 97.9 The Box) kept the fans hyped throughout the day.
Swoop Swoop (aka Eisenhower HS varsity) became the first ever team comprised solely of players from the same high school to win 1st place in the Back 2 School Battle.  The team of 9 players won all 6 of their games on the weekend including bracket victories over KDC International, TJ Ford Elite, Hoop Nation and Houston Raptors Elite in the championship.  Jesse Zarzuela led the Raptors with 12p (4 treys) while Marlon Jackson contibuted 9pts.  Swoop Swoop trailed by 16pts in the first half before walking that lead all the way down.  Ironically, they trailed by double digits in the semis and quarter finals as well.  Twins Ja'Mare and Ja'Mere Redus were the key producers on this squad, but a few teammates supplied impressive performances.  For example, Korey McQueen, Matthew Barber, Patrick Punch will pose problems this season for many opponents.  I can hardly wait to see this team September 30 - October 1st at the Super 16 Extravaganza which will be held at DeKaney HS.

The Rcs Sports' Season Opener (powered by Boost Mobile) is being held on Saturday, Nov.12, 2016 at the Campbell Center.  It's sure to be a great day of basketball as we have some of the top players and teams in the area facing off!
9:30am #27 Lamar Texans v #39 Eisenhower Eagles

Key Players: Lamar -David Allen Shepherd (Sr), Shawn Cornelius (Sr) Tamir Bynum (Jr)  Eisenhower - Ja'Mare Redus (So), Je'Mere Redus (So)
Notes: Bynum is quite a talent and committed to UTSA.  Whoever gets the upper hand in the backcourt matchup between Allen-Shepherd and Bynum v the Redus twins should come out on top. The twins will not make it easy for the two Texan guards as they defend fearlessly.

11:00am #28 Kinkaid Falcons v #13 Tompkins Falcons
Key Players: Kinkaid - Jae LeDee (Jr), Jake Shaper (Sr),  Isaiah LeBlanc (Fr);    Tompkins - Josh Williams (Sr), Jamal Bieniemy (Jr), Kristian Sjolund (Jr)
Notes:  All eyes will be on LeDee!  However, this will be the much anticipated varsity debut for LeBlanc, one of the top freshmen in the area.  Look for him to control tempo while Shaper and LeDee will challenge Tompkins with their scoring ability.  Tompkins will look for veteran guards Williams and Bieniemy to lead the charge. Sjolund is a do everything type of player that you will love to watch play.  Make no mistake about it... Williams is relishing the opportunity to prove there is a difference between a senior and a freshman playing point guard.

12:30pm #11 Dickinson Gators v #17 Houston Christian Mustangs
Key Players: Dickinson-Jarian Spells (Sr), Quante Julien (So), Tramon Mark (Fr);   Hou Christian - Miller Kopp (Jr), Jalon Clark (Jr), Sahvir Wheeler (So)
Notes: If you like guards this is the game for you.  Dickinson has guards for days, months, and years - even after losing sharp shooting junior Faite Williams who transferred.  This game is the perfect stage for Spells to prove he is one of the area's top unsigned floor generals.  It will be interesting to see how talented freshman Mark fares in his debut.  Houston Christian will be led by super talented point guard Wheeler (committed to Texas A&M).  This pint sized point guard is really fun to watch.  He is fresh off of a 30p 12a performance in their season opener on Tuesday.  Kopp has the ability to dominate on the inside, and Clark should make an imprint on this game.

2:00pm #8 Cy Falls Eagles v #6 Klein Forest Eagles
Key Players: Cy Falls - DeShang Weaver (Jr). Nigel Hawkins (Jr), Trajan Wesley (Jr);  Klein Forest - Cedric Alley (Sr), Tavion Roberson (Sr) Taj Simmons (Sr)
Notes: This should be one of the best games of the day. Cy Falls, who comes into the season one of the favorites in 6A Region 3.  In addition to Hawkins, the Eagles has Weaver back in the fold - he missed all of last season with a torn ACL. They also benefit from the addition of Wesley who looks to be back to his old ways after a so-so sophomore campaign. Klein Forest is a senior laden team who has all the tools to be one of the best teams in state. The Alley / Weaver match up will be fun to watch.

3:30pm #30 Nimitz Cougars v #20 V-Prep Cardinals
Key Players: Nimitz-  Walter Prevost (Sr) Justin Lawson (So);    V-Prep  -Jarred Vanderbilt (Sr), Roy Broomfield (Sr)
Notes: Vanderbilt opened the season with a 35p 17r performance during an overtime win against Westbury Christian.  He missed the team's last 2 games (leg) and will return to action 3:30 on Saturday (vs Nimitz.  The key to this game will be whether Nimitz prevent Vanderbilt from having one of those monster games. Also will Prevost dominate the paint? One of the more interesting match ups on the docket.

5:00pm #3 Westfield Mustangs v #4 Dawson Eagles
Key Players: Westfield- Jase Febres (Sr) Darius McNeil (Sr), DeMarcus Morris (Sr);  Dawson  -Karl Nicholas (Sr) Jules Moor (Sr), Braxton Lovings (Sr)
Notes:  This one should be rocking with two of the more talented teams in the city.  Westfield is the only team in the state with 2 seniors signed letters of intent to Big 12 powers (Febres to Texas & McNeil to Iowa State).  Which dynamic duo will out play the other could determine the winner.  Both Moor and Nicholas (signed with Montana) play a physical brand of ball.  Expect for Moor to take advantage of this platform to attract the attention of at least one D1 head coach.  The X-factor for Dawson will be the productivity of Lovings while opposite McNeil.

6:30pm #15 Yates Lions v #7 Sam Houston Tigers
Key Players:  Yates- Terrand Bennett (Sr) Jock Hughes (Jr) Mitchell Seriale (Jr);   Sam Houston - Jacob Wiley (Sr), Kendric Davis (Jr), Henry Hampton (Jr)
Notes: This is a rematch of the HISD Tournament Finals (won by Sam Houston) last season.  Expect an up and down game with the team who takes care of the ball better most likely coming out on top.  Wiley and Seriale are two of the most athletic kids in the city, and their match-up should be fun to watch. TCU recruit, Davis is a warrior on the court.  Will someone other than Davis be able to handle the Yates pressure?  A player like Hampton can earn instant respect from opponents with his contributions.

8:00pm #2 Davis Falcons v #9 Atascocita Eagles
Key Players: Davis -Royce Hamm (Sr), Jamal Antione (Sr);   Atascocita- Fabian White (Sr), Kobi Wilson (Jr), Joe Rollins (So)
Notes: Gone are the days of Carsen Edwards and Greg Shead.  Atascocita is breaking in a new group of guards and by no means are these kids some slouches. Wilson (transferred from Arkansas).  He is the son of former Christian Life coach Carlos Wilson.   Rollins along with junion Casey Brooks will look to compliment White who will be anchoring down low. The duel between White (signed with Houston) and Hamm (signed with Texas) will be epic!  Expect Hamm to use his versatility to gain an advantage. Antione could be the X-Factor for Davis!

Friday will kick off the prestigious Kingwood Classic hosted by Bigfoot Hoops. A total of 342 teams in 10 age groups, including 105 in 17u will compete over the three day event, in front of dozens of college coached and hundreds of spectators. The event will host teams throughout Texas, as well as Louisiana, Oklahoma, Indiana, Florida, Georgia, North Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, Nevada, California, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, New York and Delaware. For people who don’t understand, this was the premier event before all the different leagues by the shoe companies. I remember one year when the Kingwood Classic had 753 teams and it was the “Who’s Who” of top prospects and college coaches. This is a very important weekend for several prospects, to either continue their strong play, or make a name for themselves. The previous two days we have provided some teams and players who can boost or hurt their stock this weekend. A couple more are Prep Stars Elite with kids like Collin Means, Nick Hernandez, Rashadre Wilson and Kyre Edwards. Houston Rockstarz with kids like the Robinson twins and Brandon Loville, and a host of others. It should be a fun weekend on the north side of town, I know I’m excited and speaking with one particular summer coach, he was so excited Monday, he said he wanted to go set up a tent and camp outside the MI3 Center!!! Speaking of the MI3 Center, that is the tournament headquarters.

This weekend I was present at the Pearland Texas Classic given by Rick Nelson and staff. It was another great event given by Nelson as over 200 teams took the floor in the Pearland and surrounding areas over the 3 days. I saw some breakout performances and a few unsigned seniors played some strong basketball. I also saw a crazy ending to one of the 17u championship games. I will also provide a list of all the champions from 15u-17u.

Today starts the “Live Period” the period where a prospects performance can cause a college coach to put a check by your name or cross you off the list. There are tons of tournaments going on around the state and country; I will be present at the Pearland Texas Classic given by Rick Nelson and staff. This is one of my favorite events to cover due to the organization of the event, the great facilities and the high level competition. This year’s tournament is full of underrated talent that if missed, college coaches may wind up kicking themselves for missing out on. Off the top of my head, I can think of a few teams that have D1 level players on their rosters. Teams like M&E Elite, GCBC-Bullet, Prep Stars Elite, Brazoria Ballers, STX Defenders-Brady and many others will be displaying some very good players. Also a handful of top unsigned seniors will be on display for colleges still looking for players for the 2015-2016 season. Check back next week for my top performers from this event.

Starting Friday in Humble and Crosby, Brian Jolivette will host the first of his 4 tournaments this year starting with the Off Da Hook tournament. Brian always has top notch tournaments with great competition and individual talent and this year should be no different. Fresh off of advancing to the championship game of the platinum division, the Houston Hoopstars will be taking the floor this weekend. Also taking the floor will be the 16u platinum division champs Houston Hoops-Holmes. Also look out for the Rockstarz, Team Stackz, Basketball University 16u and the Jr Hardballers. Should be a great weekend of basketball. Check back next week for my recap.

(Courtesy of God First Crusader staff)...
This past weekend the God First Crusaders 2020 7th grade team traveled to Washington, D.C. for the National Youth Basketball League (NYBL) Session 1.  The NYBL’s motto, Elite Competition and Maximum Exposure, was on full display during the 2014 season and 2015 Session 1 did not disappoint. In fact, in terms of league competitiveness last season, NYBL teams again dominated at the AAU Nationals.  As evidence, in both the 6th & 7th grade AAU Nationals, NYBL teams (Team CP3 & Oakland Soldiers) took home national championships.  In addition, as was the case the first 2 seasons, the high level of exposure generated by the NYBL was unprecedented and unmatched, as the league has re-established partnerships with many of the major media outlets that traditionally cover middle school basketball. Not only were media outlets such as the Buckeye Prep Report, Basketball Spotlight, Middle School Hoops, Prolific Performance, DMV Elite and Lineage of Champions covering every move the NYBL makes this season, but the league’s official website will also be offering more coverage, including session-by-session recaps, top performer lists, player and team profiles, special feature stories as well as national individual and team rankings. Based on the number of NYBL players that are ranked in the recent top 100 national rankings, it’s clear that the NYBL-generated exposure has played a significant role in determining those rankings!

God First 2020 has made huge strides nationally in terms of playing at a high level against the nation’s best teams and players.  Game 1 matched up the Crusaders against national Adidas sponsored powerhouse, Ohio Basketball Club.  GFC played well with a great team effort, winning their first game of Saturday 53-46.  6’1 (PG/SG) Isaiah LeBlanc led all scorers with 17, 5’6 (PG) DJ Stewart had 13 and 5’9 (PG/SG) Tramon Mark had 11.  The next game of the day for GFC was against Nike Sponsored Alabama Challenge.  GFC jumped on the Challenge early and never looked back, pulling away 59-27.  Tramon Mark led the attack with 17pts. while 5’11 (WF) Brycen Perkins finished with 14.  Future 2022 star guard Giovanni Goree scored his first 2 points in a God First uniform in this game at NYBL.  The third game of the night, was a headline game featuring a matchup of nationally ranked players on both teams.  God First controlled the game for 3 quarters leading by 10 at the half and 7 at the end of the third quarter.  A breakdown in the fourth quarter and a momentum swing by a well-coached, very talented and disciplined team, led God First to its first NYBL loss of the season 59-52 to the Mid-Ohio Pumas, one of the best teams from the East, who also knocked of the 2014 NYBL 2020 champion West Coast All-Stars earlier that day.  None of the Crusaders played particularly well and ultimately the leading scorer was Isaiah LeBlanc with 16 points.  Tramon Mark, Antwon Norman and 6’0 (WF) Jayden Moore played well in spurts but it wasn’t enough to overcome 6-1 national rising star Jack Pugh and the Pumas.

GFC bounced back at 8am Sunday morning in a dog fight of a game.  Fresh off of a close single digit loss to the 2014 AAU National Champ Oakland Soldiers, Louisville, KY NIKE Go Hard in the Paint (The Ville) came in on fire vs. God First.  GFC played their hearts out and withstood an unbelievable 3 point barrage from this talented bunch to edge out a 72-71 win.  Tramon Mark and Isaiah LeBlanc both had 17pts. and Jayden Moore continued his outstanding play with 14pts.  6’5 new addition Terius Mathis 7 points and 22 rebounds proved to be humongous in this run and gun affair.  The final game of the road trip was against Nike Team Final (red) from the Philadelphia area.  GFC continued to roll lead by 5’7 Antwon Norman’s 17 points and a balanced attack with several others in double figures.  All in all despite playing one fourth quarter of bad basketball, God First re-established the notion of how special this team could possibly be as they continue to develop and progress.  Way to represent for Houston and Texas with a successful national power team made up of local area talent and great coaching and development.

This past weekend I was present at the Spring Bling Tournament given by Lamar Holt and the Rytes Warriors Organization. It was a very well ran tournament, with a lot of talent from Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. Lamar always throws great tournaments and this one was no different. I saw alot of good individual talent as well as some teams that caught my eye.

Teams Who Caught My Eye

Houston Elite 13u-Saw these kids for the 2nd time so far this Spring and they continue to impress. They have good guard play, and wings that rebound and lead the break and cause mismatches. Loss in the championship game to God First, who they beat in pool play.

God First 13u-Very good team, led by a dynamic duo of Isiah Leblanc and Tramon Marks. They were in a battle against the DCS Thunder from New Orleans but turned it up and eventually cruised to victory. Bounced back from a pool play loss to Elite to win the championship.

Players Who Caught My Eye

Jaylen Phillips (Houston Elite 13u)-Makes plays on both ends. Very nice size with long arms which helps him on the defensive end. Got the defensive rebound and started the break on several occasions. He also had very good touch around the basket.

Wesley Sellers (Houston Elite 13u)-Athletic wing who is a strong finisher. Very long arms and when he wanted to was a tenacious defender. Also ran the point some.

LJ Cryer (Houston Elite 13u)-Heady and crafty pg. Made all the right plays and is an exceptional passer.

Tramon Marks (God First 13u)-Very athletic kids who can finish in traffic. Also an above average ball handler.

Todd Banks (DCS Thunder-New Orleans 13u)-Very good with the ball. Made some unbelievable passes, unfortunately his teammates were not finishing. Doesn't look for his shot as much as he should.

2014 PANGOS ALL - SOUTH FROSH / SOPH CAMP  "AFTER-THOUGHTS"

(By: Jim Hicks   @RcsSports)

I arrived in Dallas just in time for Sunday's (Oct 12th) Top 60 and Top 30 Cream of the Crop games.  As usual, this event was possessed the atmosphere of a good ol' Fall Family Reunion.  Many summer coaches who hadn't spoke to each other in months, found themselves rooting for the same team, and in some cases - sitting side by side communicating about... basketball stuff.  As for the campers, this event served as the last hooray (of the non-scholastic season) for many of the 9th and 10th graders who accepted invites to participate.

The 11th Annual Super 16 Extravaganza took place, Oct 4 - 5th @ Pasadena HS.  The Atascocita Eagles claimed first place with a convincing 6-0 run through the event, capped with a double digit win over Cy Lakes in the championship.  Senior shooting guard Paris Marquez pumped in a game high 18pts to lead the way for the Eagles.  On Sunday, they cruised past C.E. King (61-44), St Thomas (53-12), Beaumont Ozen (56-27), and Cy Lakes (51-40).  Factor in Saturday's pool wins over Cy Springs (66-45) and the 54-52 overtime thriller against Clear Creek was their only game decided by single digits.

OCT 4 - 5th @ PASADENA HS:  Super 16 Extravaganza "Fall HS Championships".
