PROSPECT UPSHOT: BARBERS HILL vs #22 GOOSE CREEK MEMORIAL

Written by: Geoffrey Day (RCS Sports)

Two UIL 5A Region-III foes faced off in Baytown, Texas. The facility wasn’t packed but the fans were very loud in the gymnasium giving it that basketball flare that I love. #22 Goose Creek Memorial (3-0) faced Barbers Hill (4-1). Here is my synopsis and evals from the game.

Slow paced basketball game as both teams were measuring each other in the first quarter of play. Neither team really shot the ball that well to start the game Goose Creek Memorial was 3/10 and Barbers Hill went 5/20 in the first quarter. The Patriots picked up their slack in the second quarter of play as Barbers Hill still struggled to hit shots at a high rate. Sam Bradford really got active on the glass and the team turned up the fire to force 6 turnovers in the quarter in which they capitalized on and took the lead. With the lead going into the second half the Patriots never looked back and continued to pour it on the Eagles. To add salt to the opened womb A’daris Semien hit a half court buzzer beater that gave the Patriots even more confidence. With the Eagles only down by 5 to start the quarter they came out defeated and started to foul early as if the game was already over. Goose Creek Memorial paced themselves and took care of business to remain unbeaten in the early part of the season and keep their ranking position intact.

Sam Bradford 6’5” WG | Goose Creek Memorial | 2022

Strong wing prospect that was able to get to the rim with ease. Has a good handle for his size and position. He was very active on the boards. Has a good motor and is always looking to make the right play. He guarded the best ball handler on the court as well as the post. He finished the game 14 points, 15 rebounds (5-Off & 10-Def), 4 steals, 3 assists, and 1 blocked shot. Shot 7/17 from the field (7/16-2FG & 0/1-3FG) and 0/2 from the free throw line.

Dariyus Woodson 6’6” SF | Goose Creek Memorial | 2022

Plays a lot on the perimeter. His shots weren’t falling from deep but in the high post game and cuts to the basket he was money. Long prospect who holds down the interior defensively. Quick reaction time and solid laterally when guarding the perimeter. Finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals, and 2 assists. He shot 3/10 from the floor (3/5-2FG & 0/5-3FG) and 6/8 from the charity stripe.

Devin Figueroa 6’0” G | Goose Creek Memorial | 2021

Devin is used as a shooter for the Patriots. He can handle the ball and has really good speed and control with the rock. Finished the game with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. He shot 3/5 from the field overall (1/1-2FG & 2/4-3FG) and 2/4 from the foul line.

Cole Anderson 6’6” F | Barbers Hill | 2022

Cole was working his high low game. Good hands especially down low. He uses his body well to gain position. Has the capabilities of putting the ball on the floor. Still young but could be utilized many ways depending on the school that he lands at. Finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal. From the floor he shot 7/20 (7/19-2FG & 0/1-3FG) and went 4/4 from the foul line.

Gaven Barber 6’0” PG | Barbers Hill | 2022

Shifty point that is a known corner specialist. He was able to get a lot of paint touches and made some solid reads. Feeds the post and never stood still on the court. Pesky on-ball defender who has quick hands. Has a good IQ and understands the plays and options very well. He finished the game with 11 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. He shot ⅜ from the floor (1/4-2FG & 2/4-3FG) and 3/3 from the charity stripe.
